What Does SEO Stand For?

Seo stands for search engine optimisation (search engine optimiser) it involves optimising on page and off page factors so that your website not only ranks higher but also converts better too. The higher you rank in Google, Yahoo, and MSN, the higher chance you have of getting more targeted visitors to your site.

According to Wikipedia, Seo is:

the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it “ranks,” the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content and HTML coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.

The acronym “SEO” can also refer to “search engine optimizers,” a term adopted by an industry of consultants who carry out optimization projects on behalf of clients, and by employees who perform SEO services in-house. Search engine optimizers may offer SEO as a stand-alone service or as a part of a broader marketing campaign. Because effective SEO may require changes to the HTML source code of a site, SEO tactics may be incorporated into web site development and design. The term “search engine friendly” may be used to describe web site designs, menus, content management systems and shopping carts that are easy to optimize.

Another class of techniques, known as black hat SEO or Spamdexing, use methods such as link farms and keyword stuffing that degrade both the relevance of search results and the user-experience of search engines. Search engines look for sites that employ these techniques in order to remove them from their indices.

No matter what kind of website or online business you have, understanding and implementing good SEO strategies is essential in driving traffic to your website and increasing business.

SEO takes time to learn and requires a certain amount of expertise to be implemented successfully. If you want to do your own SEO a good place to start would be to devour the info from the best places around. I recommend you check out the forums/blogs at seomoz, search engine land, high rankings, and search engine people. It’s we’re I began, and a lot of the best SEO experts in world hang about here too,

But, a lot of people don’t have the time to learn everything there is to know to create successful search engine optimisation campaigns for their sites. Those are the people who require professional SEO consultants like me! Sounds corny I know, yet I have over 4 years experience with creating successful web promotion campaigns.

However, sometimes it is just better to leave it to the professionals. If you know nothing about SEO from the get go, it can end up real messy. Just as if I was trying to fix my own car, I’d make a mess of that. In fact, I wouldn’t even give it a thought, I’d take it to a mechanic who knows what he’s doing. If I had a problem with my electrics I’d ring an electrician, and if I had a problem with my heating I would ring a plumber, and so on.

At the end of the day, you can learn SEO yourself, just as you can with electrics and cars, it takes years of practice and proven results before you’re let loose to work your magic though. Working on the electrics before you’re qualified and trained up can be potentially deadly, don’t let the same happen to your site!!
